Types of Braces

Because Dr. Heidi Starnes, orthodontist in Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and surrounding areas, and her orthodontic team at Starnes Orthodontics understand that each of our patients is unique with his or her own orthodontic needs and personal preferences, we offer several types of braces. Whether your teenager is interested in Invisalign® or you're wondering if you’re a candidate for clear braces, you can be sure that we have the right orthodontic treatment option for you! By taking an individualized approach to orthodontic care, Dr. Starnes is able to provide every patient she serves in the Newport Beach area with the very best orthodontic results for a life-long healthy and attractive smile!

Metal Braces

The most common type of braces, metal braces are very effective in straightening teeth and can be used to correct many types of orthodontic issues. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more attractive than the bigger and bulkier metal braces used in the past. At our Newport Beach office, patients wearing metal braces can personalize their treatment by choosing from a variety of fun colors for the elastics.

Clear Braces

Clear braces are for those patients who do not want to wear highly visible orthodontic braces. Clear braces are made from a translucent ceramic material that perfectly blends in with the natural color of the teeth, making them very popular among our adult patients due to their aesthetic appeal.

Dr. Starnes uses the Clarity Bracket which is a high quality bracket that does not stain or discolor. The drawback to these braces is that they are more fragile than metal braces.

Invisalign® Clear Aligners

Invisalign® is a very popular treatment method that both teenagers and adults love. Instead of using metal wires and brackets, Invisalign uses a series of clear, custom-made, smooth plastic aligners that are removable.

When you're wearing Invisalign®, most people won't even realize you're improving your smile as the clear aligners are virtually invisible. Plus, since the aligners can be removed, you simply take them out when eating and drinking and when brushing and flossing, making wearing Invisalign very convenient. Furthermore, Dr. Starnes is an Invisalign Premiere Provider and has attended many educational workshops to maintain the highest standards of Invisalign care.

Incognito™ Lingual Braces

Incognito™ lingual braces work in the same way as conventional metal braces. However, instead of being bonded to the front side of the teeth, lingual braces are bonded to the backside of the teeth, making these braces very discreet. Treatment with lingual braces is customized for each patient to maximize comfort and ensure precise results.

Patients wearing lingual braces may notice that their speech is slightly different when they begin treatment. However, speech quickly returns to normal once the patient is used to wearing lingual braces.
